Hope

Hope is my favorite collage! She inspired me while I was creating her and she continues to inspire me now! I love her message and in an odd way, feel she communicated her thoughts through me. She is my most technically complex piece, made of hundreds of tiny, little pieces of paper found in magazines and books. Her original is 28”x28” on canvas.

From afar Hope looks like a strong, wise woman of color. It’s only when we look up-close do we see her stories told through her eye and braids. Her braids tell her stories of years of challenges including societal inequality, violence, discrimination and harassment. Yet, through it all, Hope has the determination to succeed and see “hope” in the world. We know this because she has the symbol of peace in her eye of a momma sheep and baby.

Hope was chosen to be included in Maryland Federation of Art’s, “Art on Paper” in April, 2022. She was also chosen to participate in The Arts Council of Anne Arundel County’s “Paint the Town” in May, 2023.

Thanks so much!
